It is becoming more and more common these days for us to buy temporary car insurance  rather than going for the longer term annual policy.

Since people have much less disposable income these days, this type of temporary insurance offers a realistic alternative to paying out much more for a long term plan.

Insurance companies all regard Temporary car insurance differently as some see it as very high risk.

The premium you get quoted will very much be influenced by your claims history if you have one, along with other factors such as the car make and model, the number of days you want cover for and your personal details.

There are many consumerswho need cover for just a few days while they’re changing cars, or need to borrow a car at short notice.

Failing to plan ahead and leaving buying temp car insurance until the last minute will just cost you more money.  This is because the pressure will be on you to get the insurance and the chances are you’ll just take the first quote that comes along. You should make some enquiries now, when you don’t need it so you have an idea of the costs involved for when you do need it.

The lifetime of a temp policy can vary greatly.  Some consumersonly need cover for 1 day whereas others might require cover for 30 days.  It is an ideal way for a young driver to be able to drive a car legally on a road trip.

Teenagers and young adults struggle to pay high insurance premiums as they are rated a high risk and get charged an extortionate amount by most companies.  So in some cases, temporary car insurance can be the only option.

There’s more chance of a young person being able to make the payments on one of these temporary car insurance plans which gives them the mobility they seek.

This means they can get temp car insurance for 3 or 4 weeks at a fraction of the price of an annual policy.

There is a large number of insurance companies that specialise in offering temporary car insurance, in particular to consumersin high risk categories.

Although it can cost a bit more for this type of insurance, at least it allows the driver to drive their car legally.

Insurance premiums have been pushed up as a result of fraud and this has led to more people taking a chance and driving illegally without insurance.

So by going for temporary insurance, it allows the driver to remain legal and also build up a period of no claims which helps reduce future premiums.
